Amtrak provides numerous services to Martinez. The California Zephyr travels through Martinez daily, travelling in both directions from Emeryville to Omaha, with stops in Reno NV, Denver, CO, Salt Lake City, UT, and more. The Coast Starlight also travels through Martinez daily, providing service to areas including Los Angeles and Seattle, WA. Amtrak California runs both its Capitol Corridor and San Joaquin train lines through the Martinez station several times daily, between San Jose and Auburn, and Oakland and Bakersfield, respectively. Both lines provide optional bud transfer at various stops. There is a station called North Concord/Martinez, but it is located several miles outside of the city. The County Connection is Martinez’s main bus service provider, travelling to many BART stations in the area, while WestCat services just one in El Cerrito del Norte. The Benicia Breeze crosses the Benicia-Martinez bridge to Solano County, connecting with the Vallejo Ferry Terminal, and the Tri-Delta Transit bus provides service all over Costa Contra County.

The City of Martinez Recreation Department sponsors many activities and events throughout the year for residents’ enjoyment. They hold holiday celebrations throughout the year, including fireworks, parades, as well as food and gift drives. The city has also come up with some of their own, including an annual Martinez Restaurant Tour, city cleanups, a fishing derby, and family shows including magic, animal, and comedy performances. The population of Martinez, based on information taken from the 2010 Census, was 35,824. This makes for a population density of 2,72 people per square mile. Of the population, 77% were white, 8% Asian, 4% African American, 6% identifying as other, and 4% claiming 2 or more races. 48% of the population was made up of married couples, and 28% were individuals. Of these couples and individuals, the majority were between 45 and 64 years of age, at 34%. 26% were 25-44, 20% under 18, 12% 65 years or older, and just 8% between 18 and 24 years old. For every 100 females in Martinez, there were 97 males. 67% of occupied housing units were filled by renters, leaving 33% for renters. Unemployment in Martinez was significantly lower than both California and United States averages, at 4.5%.
Nightlife

There isn’t a huge selection of nightlife venues in Martinez, but there is enough to satisfy the thirst for a good time. Barrel Aged is a relaxed lounge, open until midnight, with a full bar and food menu. Roxx on Main and the Compass Star are both tapas places with full bars that are only open until 9pm, but draw a large crowd for cocktails and tunes before then. Ray’s Lounge and College Lane are both considered dive bars, boasting juke boxes and cheap beers. Cue & Brew is similar, but has many pool tables, also a full bar. Armando’s is a live music venue, providing opportunities to local artists and entertainment to the rest, with just wine and beer at the bar. If you need a dance floor type of night to get dolled up for, you may need to travel, because these are the best Martinez has to offer.
