Economy and Jobs

In the past decade, the city of Lancaster has created programs to revitalize the city economically through the state funded Lancaster Redevelopment Agency. Through the program, aimed at attracting and retaining more businesses, large chains have recently opened throughout the city, and programs aimed to assist small business owners, such as reduced rates on land and less stipulations regarding the development process, have been implemented. The employment potential in the city is now recorded as 102,464. However, the unemployment rate remains above 10%, and while the average household income in the city is high at $68,298, the per capita income is $22,484, suggesting there is a gap in economic status. This is likely a result of the recentness of so much development; unemployment is likely to lessen considering the six new shopping centers and many restaurant and retail chains newly available to stimulate the city’s economy and provide many jobs.

There is plenty to do in Lancaster after dark, whatever type of night you’re looking to have. Medrano’s is a Mexican restaurant turned dance club at night, open until 1am on weekends with great drink specials. Bamboo is similar, and is 18+, which is either good or bad, depending on your age. The most popular bar in town is probably The Trap, which also has a dance floor, but more of a rock n’ roll vibe, and could be qualified as a dive, mostly due to its locals party feel. Maxdon’s is similar. Pour d’ Vino is a small beer and wine bar, great for a few drinks with a late dinner, or without. Coach’s is a popular sports bar, complete with numerous tvs and cheap beer and bar food, and Sharky’s is the local popular pool hall. There are over 20 bars in the desert city of Lancaster.
