Fresno is the fifth largest city in California (by population), and is inexpensive compared to other large cities in the state. Here’s a list of the most populated cities in the state, in order of size, and their median rent: Los Angeles has a median rent of $1,088, San Diego is $1,194, San Jose is $1,678, San Francisco is $1,646, Fresno is $815, Sacramento is $974, Long Beach is $1,074, and Oakland is $1,129. As you can see, at $815, Fresno is by far the cheapest option of the eight largest California cities, and aside from Sacramento, is the only city on the list with a median rent of under $1000. It is also the only listed city with a median rent that is below the national average ($950).
