Daly City ranks 12th on a list of the nation’s highest public transit riderships, as one in every five residents use public transportation to go to work every day. Located just eight miles southwest of San Francisco, it’s an easy commute. There are a few different types of public transportation available. SamTrans is an agency that provides bus service for the San Mateo, San Francisco, and Palo Alto areas. The Bay Area Rapid Transit provides rail and subway service between San Francisco and Mateo County. Parts of the San Francisco Municipal Railway also provide bus, trolley, and rail service.

The Daly City Parks and Recreation apart has been around for nearly 80 years, and today offers over 200 classes and services to kids, teenagers, adults and seniors that range from swimming lessons to hall rentals. The city is part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, which includes its Thornton Beach. In addition, there are numerous public recreational properties, including baseball fields, pools, skate parks, rinks, etc. Golf’s U.S. Open will be hosted here in 2012 at the Olympic Club.
