Cypress is served by the Anaheim Union High School District, the Cypress Elementary School District, and the Los Alamitos Unified School District. The students in Cypress attend one of the nine neighborhood elementary schools, which then feed into two middle schools and two high schools. Lexington Junior High School was given and eight by GreatSchools and McAullife Middle School has received a number of state awards and been recognized as Orange County’s best Middle School. Cypress High School received a rating of ten by GreatSchools and Los Alamitos High School has been recognized numerous times by national and state education organizations. The most distinguished school in the district is the Oxford Academy, an exclusive public school that was ranked number one in the state and seventh in the nation by US News & World Report.

Cypress has 26 small neighborhood parks that offer residents open green space and small playgrounds. What makes Cypress’ recreation department unique is the number and variety of community events and programs they run. The city runs a number of classes for all ages that including the arts, sports, technology, health, and a number of other categories. The city also has youth and adult sports leagues in softball, basketball, roller hockey, and kickball. The city also holds a number of dances for teens, a fashion show, dodgeball events, and an annual battle of the bands competition.
