Even though Chino is home to a notorious prison (it’s been mentioned in movies like Heat and The Big Lebowski, and shows like the Simpsons), the crime rate is low here. In 2004, it was reported that the violent crime rate in Chino was on par with the U.S. average, and that the property crime rate was much lower than normal. Now, this is reversed. The property crime is near the U.S. average, and the violent crime is lower than normal. There’s only one part of the city that I would be weary of, and that’s the northwest part of town, near Pipeline Avenue/Francis Avenue and Walnut Avenue/Magnolia Avenue. Other than that, I think Chino is a very safe and friendly place.

With year-round sunshine and warmth, finding things to do outside of your home is essential to living in Chino. It’ll also help you get connected with your community. The city of Chino maintains 23 great parks for its residents, and eleven other facilities like community and activity centers, senior centers, and even batting cages. Outside of the city, the Angeles National Forest is just 15 miles away. The coast is a bit further away, but at 40 miles you could easily make a drive out to the Pacific Ocean on the weekend. These are just some of the recreational opportunities, and it should be mentioned that surrounding towns and cities offer numerous amenities as well.
