The area has been abuzz lately with talks of the high-speed rail proposal and financing that was recently approved. This rail will stretch from Madera to Bakersfield, covering cities like LA, Sacramento, Fresno, etc, and will go 220 miles per hour. Exciting, right? It’s not anywhere near completion however, so residents will have to stick with the current options for the time being. The city is served by Amtrak and the Kern Regional Transit with trains and buses.

These are the two main industries, but aeronautics is also big in the area.
